New Jersey Offers $120 Per Child for Summer Meals in New EBT Program

In Parsippany, New Jersey, there's good news for families looking for a little extra help feeding their children during the summer break. The state has introduced a new Summer EBT program designed to help with just that. For each child who qualifies, families can get $120 to spend on food.

This program is part of a nationwide push to make sure no child goes hungry when school's out. During the school year, many children receive free or reduced-price meals at school.

But when summer rolls around, those meals disappear. That's where the Summer EBT steps in, filling that gap so kids have access to healthy food all summer long.

Families who are already part of SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid might find things a bit easier since they're automatically eligible. If you're not in any of these programs, you might still be able to get these benefits, but you'll need to apply for them.

If you're wondering whether your child qualifies and how to get started with the benefits, you can get all the info you need by visiting NJ.gov/SummerEBT. The state has also made things a bit easier by sending out promotional materials which include a QR code. Simply scan it with your smartphone, and it'll take you straight to the program's website.

Given that food prices have been on the rise, this initiative offers a helpful way to ensure children have access to the nutrition they need during the summer months.
